Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco was born in Canada and is American. She has released more than 20 studio albums. Her music is categorized as folk and alternative rock but also has influences of jazz and hip-hop. The widely regarded feminist icon Grammy recipient Ani DiFranco is the mother of the DIY movement being one of the first musicians to launch her own record label in 1990. DiFranco's parents, Elizabeth (Ross), a ex-student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Dante Americo DiFranco met each one another while students at the same school. Her father is Italian heritage, while her mother hails from Montreal. Her song 32 Flavors was composed by her and is performed by Ani. This track is on her sixth studio album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. The track was included in the soundtrack to the Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate, released in 1999. DiFranco issued an apology in 2013, after it emerged that she had set up a three-day workshop in a Louisiana plantation. The event was cancelled however, some (including the news media) failed to see it as a sign of regret. DiFranco issued a further apology a few days later. While she's been referred to as the Little Folksinger, her music spans many genres and collaborators ranging from Pete Seeger to Chuck D to Prince. New Orleans is her home. Ani DiFranco is a friend of Kristen Ford. By 14 she was writing her own songs. She performed them in bars and coffeehouses throughout her teenage years. DiFranco was a graduate at the age of 16, at the age of 16, from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts High School, began taking classes at Buffalo State College. Ani's customized Alvarez baritone design was conceived after numerous consultations with Chrys Johnson who was the representative for artist Alvarez. The guitar is an System 600 guitar with solid woods - cedar on top and back, mahogany on the and sides, as well as an ebony fretboard. DiFranco is at home in New Orleans where she lives with her husband and two kids and sidekick Lefty their long-legged dog who wanders in and out of frame as we chat. DiFranco is admitting that, three decades after her debut in the world of music, she has mixed feelings when looking back. Ani DiFranco rose to icon status as a singer/songwriter and punk/folk at the age 25, both in the eyes of critics and fans, with Not A Pretty Girl. Dilate brought even greater success for DiFranco's music, in 1996. The single was released in 1972 from the American pop band Looking Glass. Elliot Lurie was the Looking Glass musician and vocalist.
